Carbon Canisters
Carbon Canisters.
Designed to treat fuel vapors in boat fuel systems to meet EPA regulations, these compact canisters typically mount under the gunwale in the vent line. Boats are not required to purge the canister through the engine, as automobiles do, rather the carbon bed in the canister passively treats the fuel vapor as the daily (Diurnal) temperature forces air and vapor in and out of the fuel tank through fuel system vent line.
To enable boat builders to comply with
U. S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) evaporative emissions
standards, the following standard canisters can be used as part of a boats of diurnal certification:
Note: Be sure to ask your sales representative about smaller performance based canister sizing.
There will be several design changes and additional pieces
of equipment that will need to be included in order to make the boat fuel
system compatible with evaporative emission controls. It is critical to keep
the carbon free of fuel and water and the canister will need to be self
draining and accessible, Boat builders will need to work with the canister
suppliers to insure proper installation of the canisters.
